Christmas is a month away. However, for me, it came early and it also brought some deep joy of being a part of something truly beautiful!
Thousands of miles away somewhere in Germany, a bunch of students are smiling and probably also planning a happy trip to Denmark…And I feel extremely blessed and humbled to say that my creative work, my surface patterns have made a tiny contribution to making that possible.
I thank Astrid Lindgren School Ilsede, Germany for approaching me for my designs and giving me the opportunity to be part of one of their noble causes.
Named after Astrid Lindgren, the influential Swedish writer of children’s books, Astrid Lindgren School Ilsede is a special school in the field of mental development.
Founded in 1980 in the northern district of the district of Peine, the school takes pride in being part of the cultural capital of Braunschweig / Kulturprofil City and district of Peine. For about forty years, the school has been doing amazing work with hundreds of children, adolescents and young adults with mental disabilities. Teachings/training offered by the school educates students in the areas of motor skills, speech, hearing, vision, and social/emotional development and prepares them for employment.

Every year, the final level students of class 12th along with the teachers & staff organize a Christmas Bazaar and sell art/craft/baked goods created by the students trained under their teachers. The earnings are used for students’ welfare and educational activities.
This year, besides the many gorgeous things they crafted, the school also decided to sell desk calendars inspired by my free monthly calendars featuring twelve of my different surface patterns. The adorable calendars rest on the holders hand-crafted by the students.
Have a look at their elegant art/craft collection this year!
My best wishes to Astrid Lindgren School Ilsede, all that you do is heartfelt! :)
Everything great that ever happened in this world happened first in somebody’s imagination.
